The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) is one of Canada’s Big Five banks, which means you’ll get access to physical branches and in-person service for your chequing account needs.

While all of CIBC’s chequing accounts charge a monthly account fee by default, the fee for some accounts can be waived if you maintain a minimum monthly balance.

CIBC chequing accounts for students and youth

CIBC offers variations of its CIBC Smart Account for youth and students.

  • CIBC Smart Start: for Canadian residents aged 14-24
  • CIBC Smart for Students: for Canadian residents and international students who are university, college and CEGEP students graduating at age 25 and up

CIBC chequing accounts for seniors

CIBC clients aged 65 and older are automatically eligible for perks such as a reduced monthly fee, free Interac transactions on some chequing accounts, and free bank drafts and money orders.

CIBC chequing accounts for newcomers

If you’re new to Canada, CIBC offers a variation of the CIBC Smart Account for newcomers that includes additional features and charges no monthly fee for two years.
