Travel accident insurance

If you suffer a loss as a result of an accidental bodily injury sustained while occupying a common carrier, you’re eligible for this coverage.

Example: If you’re in a train accident where you lose your speech and hearing, you can receive compensation for your loss through travel accident insurance.

Coverage: You can receive up to $500,000 in compensation.

Car rental insurance

If your rental vehicle is damaged or stolen while rented out in your name, you’re covered up to the vehicle’s actual cash value plus valid loss of use charges. This insurance plan also includes coverage against the theft of, or damage to, your personal effects, as well as any loss resulting from an accidental bodily injury sustained while in the rental car.

Example: If your rental vehicle door is scratched while parked in a lot, you can receive coverage for the damage.

Coverage: You’re eligible for up to $65,000 in coverage.

Trip cancellation

If you have to cancel your trip before it has even started, your prepaid travel costs will be covered up to a maximum amount if the cause of cancellation is eligible for the insurance.

Example: If you break your leg prior to a trip and your doctor advises you not to travel, you can receive coverage for cancelling your trip.

Coverage: You’ll receive up to $2,500 per person and $10,000 per trip.

Trip interruption and delay

If your trip has to be cut short or is delayed after the scheduled departure date, you’ll be covered up to a maximum amount if the cause of interruption or delay is eligible for the insurance.

For example: If you unexpectedly fall ill while on vacation causing you to have to delay part of your trip, you can receive coverage to help pay for additional cost of alternative arrangements and reimbursement for any prepaid nonrefundable expenses.

Coverage: You can receive up to $2,500 per person and $10,000 per trip.

Flight delay

If your departing flight is delayed by a certain number of hours, you’ll be reimbursed up to a certain amount for necessary and reasonable expenses incurred during the delay.

Example: If your flight home is delayed due to bad weather, you can receive coverage for reasonable expenses such as meals, accommodations, and sundry items.

Coverage: You’re eligible to receive up to $500 for any delay beyond four hours.

Travel medical emergency

In the event that you require urgent medical care while on a trip outside of your home province, you’ll be covered for any eligible medical expenses incurred.

Example: If you fall while on vacation such that you require stitches for your injuries, you can receive coverage for the hospital expenses you incur.

Coverage: You’re covered up to $1,000,000 for 25 days if you’re under 65 years old, or 10 days if you’re older than 65.

Lost baggage

In the event that your checked baggage cannot be located by a common carrier, you’ll be reimbursed for a portion of the replacement cost of lost personal property.

Example: If your checked luggage is lost by the airline, you can receive coverage for replacing the lost items.

Coverage: You can receive up to $1,000 per trip.

Delayed baggage

If your checked baggage is not delivered within a specified time frame from the time of your arrival at your destination, you will be reimbursed for the cost to replace essential items.

Example: If you’re travelling to San Francisco and your checked luggage has been delayed with the airline for a number of hours, you can receive reimbursement for essential expenses.

Coverage: You’re covered for up to $1,000 per trip for any delay greater than four hours.

Hotel/motel burglary

If your personal property is stolen from your hotel/motel room and there is evidence of forceful entry, you will be reimbursed for the stolen property up to a certain amount.

Example: Coming back to your hotel room you find that the door has been jammed open and many of your personal belongings are missing. You can receive coverage for the cost of replacing some of your stolen items.

Coverage: You’re eligible to receive coverage up to $1,000 per person.
