Let’s take an in-depth look at the travel insurance benefits offered by the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite:

Travel emergency medical

You, your partner, and your children are covered in cases of sudden illness or injury. This insurance coverage is in place when you travel outside of your home province and lasts for 25 days if you are under 65 and ten days if you are over 65.

Example: If you contract an unexpected illness and require a hospital stay or surgery, your travel emergency medical coverage applies.

Coverage: You, your partner, and children are covered up to $1,000,000.

Trip cancellation insurance

You, your partner, one traveling companion, and your children, are ensured if you purchase at least 75% of your trip expenses with your Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite. Trip cancellation can be for medical or non-medical reasons, and your coverage reimburses you for non-refundable trip costs.

Example: If you have unexpected pregnancy complications and your doctor advises you not to travel, your trip cancellation insurance will cover the cost of non-refundable plane tickets and hotel booking fees.

Coverage: Up to $2,500 per person, $10,000 per trip.

Trip interruption and delay insurance

Trip interruption and delay insurance also covers you, your partner, one traveling companion, and your children. To trigger this insurance, you have to book at least 75% of your trip expenses with your Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite.

Example: A hurricane forces you to delay your return flight and extend your hotel booking by several days, your trip interruption and delay insurance will cover your extra hotel fees and fees to rebook your flights.

Coverage: Up to $2,500 per person, $10,000 per trip.

Flight delay insurance

If your flight is delayed by four or more hours, your flight delay insurance will reimburse you for purchases made while waiting for the delayed flight, or if you miss a connection.

Example: A delayed flight in one airport causes you to miss your connection in another. You rebook for five hours later and purchase a meal in the meantime. That meal will be reimbursed.

Coverage: Up to $500 per insured person.

Baggage loss insurance

If you book your plane ticket with your credit card, and you check a bag with that credit card, you are protected against the loss of your baggage.

Example: The airline loses your checked luggage. You’ll be reimbursed either the lesser value of the luggage, or the cost to replace the luggage.

Coverage: Up to $1,100 per trip

Baggage delay insurance

If you book your plane tickets with the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite credit card, your insurance covers you if the airline delays the return of your luggage by more than four hours.

Example: The airline loses your luggage for 24 hours, forcing you to purchase several miscellaneous sundry items. You will be reimbursed for those purchases.

Coverage: Up to $1,100 per trip

Travel accident insurance

If you charge at least 75% of the cost of your travel to your credit card, then you, your partner, and your children are covered for accidental loss of life or dismemberment. This coverage only applies while you are traveling on the plane, train, bus, or cruise ship for which you purchased tickets.

Example: You are in a plane crash and lose your legs, your travel accident insurance will compensate you.

Coverage: $500,000 per person, up to $1,000,000 per occurrence.

Rental car collision/loss damage insurance

If you rent a vehicle with your credit card you and decline the rental agency’s optional collision damage coverage, your credit card steps in with insurance coverage in case you damage the car, or it is stolen. The rental period can’t be more than 48 days.

Example: The car you rented is scratched in the parking lot, your insurance will cover the repairs.
Coverage: Up to $65,000.

Hotel/motel burglary insurance

This coverage applies in Canada or the US and covers you, your partner, and your children. If your room is broken into and items are stolen, your insurance coverage will reimburse you after your hotel and additional insurance coverage.

Example: Your family travels to Disneyland, where after checking into your hotel, you return and find several laptops and tablets missing. After the hotel and any other insurance has compensated you, your credit card insurance will pay for the remaining value.

Coverage: Up to $1,000
