Vancity’s Flexible Travel Rewards Program

This post was sponsored by Vancity.

Travel rewards are a good way to reward yourself for responsible daily credit card use, but some programs can have drawbacks.

Some don’t allow you to use the rewards you’ve earned to pay for fees and taxes, which means you’ll still pay for a portion of your trip out of pocket. Some have blackout periods, which means you can’t book flights around holidays and other heavy travel times.

That’s why when you’re choosing a loyalty rewards program, the availability of rewards is almost as important as how many you earn. For example, with Vancity’s My Visa Rewards Plus Program, you can book your travel with no restrictions¹.

You can earn points using a Vancity enviro Visacard, which is available in many options including enviro Classic Visa and enviro Gold™ Visa with accelerator option (which helps you earn more points faster on every dollar you spend¹).

Flexibility

The My Visa Rewards Plus Program is very flexible. If you don’t have enough points to cover your travel costs, it’s not a problem.

There are three types of travel redemption options:

  • Points only – Redeem all the points you need to travel
  • Points and Visa card – Use a combination of points plus pay for part of your trip
  • Visa card only – Charge the full cost of travel on your enviro Visa card

Plus you earn double the points on any travel paid for on your card and arranged through the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre or on myvisarewardsplus.com.

Here are your options if you plan on spending $800 on travel but also have 80,000 points available:

When you redeem your points for travel, you can use your points to pay for the taxes and fees¹ associated with your vacation so there won’t be any surprise charges.

You also don’t have to worry about blackouts. There are no caps on ticket prices, no Saturday night booking requirements, and you don’t need to worry about booking months or a year in advance.

Also, your travel arrangements are just like any reservation you’d make and you won’t be limited to certain hotels or rewards seats on airlines.

There are many travel options available for you to book, such as holiday packages, flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, railway tickets, and BC Ferries.

How to book

To book your next trip, you need a minimum of 5,000 points. Points must be used in 100-point increments. All you have to do is book through myvisarewardsplus.com or let the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre handle your travel requirements.

When you book through the Service Centre and use your enviro Visa card to pay for travel, you’ll also earn double rewards points.

If you’re looking for a flexible travel rewards program with no restrictions and multiple redemption options, the Vancity My Visa Rewards Plus Program might be the right one for you.
