Aeroplan – Canada’s most popular frequent flyer program – is set to relaunch on November 8 with new enhancements, like the removal of surcharge fees and seat restrictions, a revamped rewards chart, and the ability to pool points with family members.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
American Express has revealed two new personal Aeroplan Cards that’ll give Aeroplan Members an edge with a slew of added benefits and rewards. All Cards will be officially released on November 8, but if you join the exclusive waitlist today, you can rack up between 5,000 and 10,000 extra points on top of the regular welcome bonus and get more value than everyone else right out of the gate.

When you RSVP for this Card by clicking here, you’ll join the waitlist and get an exclusive 5,000 bonus points. The kicker: these 5,000 points will be in addition to the regular sign-up bonus (yet-to-be-revealed) that’ll be available to the general public – giving you an edge and bringing you even closer to your next free flight.
To qualify for the bonus, you’ll need to apply by December 31, 2020 and be approved for the Card.
Uber Pass Membership
Eligible cardmembers can receive a complimentary Uber Pass membership for six months, including unlimited $0 delivery fee on eligible restaurant orders of $15 or more, 5% off eligible restaurant orders over $15, and exclusive Rides Perks.
Card Benefits
Globetrotters will be happy to hear the American Express® Aeroplan®* Card features impressive airline perks like getting a free first checked bag (up to 23kg/50lb) when flying Air Canada for you and up to eight travel companions. If you and a loved one or friend are travelling together on the same booking, think about all the baggage fees you could save on a round-trip flight within Canada or to the US. And the savings only add up when you’re travelling with more people.
You’ll also get the advantage of preferred pricing.
When booking flights on Air Canada, Cardmembers can often book flight rewards for even fewer points. That’s great news since the fewer points you need for a redemption, the more your points will be worth, further stretching your travel savings.
Elite status boost
With the American Express® Aeroplan®* Card, you can reach Aeroplan EliteTM* Status more easily just for using your Aeroplan Card to make everyday purchases (rather than just when buying airline tickets). You’ll earn 1,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) and 1 Status Qualifying Segment (SQS) for every $10,000 you charge to your Card annually.
The advantage of a Charge Card
The new American Express® Aeroplan®* Card is a charge card. For all intents and purposes, a charge card functions exactly the same way as a conventional credit card with two notable exceptions: charge cards don’t have a pre-set credit limit and you’re expected to pay off your balance each month.
Without a conventional credit limit, you’ll have more spending power and the flexibility to pay for (and rack up points on) purchases of all sizes. Plus, because you have to pay off your statement in full each month and can’t carry a balance, charge cards can be a great financial tool to encourage Cardmembers to spend within their means and be disciplined about their purchasing habits.
2. American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card
American Express’ other new Aeroplan Card, the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card, is an ultra-premium Card that really boosts your earning potential on everyday purchases – with triple the points on eligible purchases made directly with Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations (the highest earn rate on Air Canada purchases of any Aeroplan Card) and double the points on eligible Dining and Food Delivery purchases.
-
- Annual fee: $599
- 3x the points on eligible purchases made directly with Air Canada®* and Air Canada vacations®*
- 2x the points on eligible Dining and Food Delivery purchases in Canada
- 1x the points per dollar spent on everything else
- Eligible cardmembers get a FREE Uber Pass membership for 12 months. Including unlimited $0 delivery fee on eligible restaurant orders of $15 or more, 5% off eligible restaurant orders over $15, and exclusive Rides Perks
-
- Waitlist offer: Get an extra 10,000 bonus points when your RSVP by clicking Get More Details
- Card type: Credit Card

When you RSVP for the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card by clicking here, you’ll join the waitlist and get an exclusive 10,000 bonus points.
Just like the American Express® Aeroplan®* Card covered above, these waitlist bonus points will be in addition to the Card’s regular (but yet-to-be-announced) sign up bonus that will be available to the general public – so you can stack offers and earn even more value.
To qualify for the bonus, you’ll need to apply by December 31, 2020 and be approved for the Card.
Uber Pass Membership
Eligible cardmembers can receive a complimentary Uber Pass membership for 12 months, including unlimited $0 delivery fee on eligible restaurant orders of $15 or more, 5% off eligible restaurant orders over $15, and exclusive Rides Perks.
Exclusive benefits at Toronto Pearson Airport
With the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card, you’ll get the VIP treatment when travelling from Canada’s busiest airport with perks like an expedited security lane, complimentary valet, parking discounts, and more.
Card Benefits
You’ll get the first checked bag for free (up to 23kg/50lb) when flying Air Canada for you and up eight travel companions (which can add up to $60 per person when flying roundtrip domestically or to the U.S.). You’ll also immediately enjoy Aeroplan Elite Status perks, like priority check-in, priority boarding, and priority baggage handling. One of the most coveted perks – access to airline lounges – is also included with complimentary access to Maple Leaf Lounges TM and Air Canada Cafes in North America as long as you have a reservation on an Air Canada flight on the same day you want to visit a lounge.
Additionally, you’ll get the benefit of preferred pricing, which means basic Cardmembers can often book flight rewards for even fewer points – stretching your points even further and maximizing your travel savings.
Companion flight
Flying with a loved one or friends is always more enjoyable than travelling alone, right? With the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card you can earn one Annual Worldwide Companion Pass to book a second seat on the plane for a fraction of the regular price.
You’ll receive one Annual Worldwide Companion Pass when you spend $25,000 in net purchases prior to you Card’s anniversary date. The Pass entitles you to purchase an accompanying Air Canada economy class ticket for a companion at the following base fares (plus taxes, fees, charges, and surcharges):
- $99 base fare for flights within Canada and Continental U.S. (excluding Hawaii)
- $299 base fare to/from Hawaii, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean
- $499 CAD base fare to/from South America, Europe, Middle East, and Africa
- $599 CAD base fare to/from Asia (including India), Australia, and New Zealand
And the best part is you can get one Annual Worldwide Companion Pass each and every year you’re a Cardmember so long as you meet the qualifying spend.
Elite Status boost
With the American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card, it’s even easier to achieve Aeroplan Elite Status. You’ll earn 1,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) and 1 Status Qualifying Segment (SQS) for every $5,000 you spend on your Card each and every year.
All of these money-saving extras go far to offset the Card’s annual fee of $599. Announcements of more features on the horizon, so stay tuned for more exciting news coming to your American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card soon.

Income requirement
American Express’ new Aeroplan Cards will be within reach of more Canadians.
While similar rewards cards often come with income requirements mandating you must earn at least $60,000 or more just to be considered eligible to apply, neither of the new Cards from American Express have any income requirements whatsoever. You’ll just need to be the age of majority (either 18 or 19 depending on your province) and be a Canadian resident with a Canadian credit file to be considered eligible.
