Canadian Mortgage Professional magazine recently held the 2012 Mortgage Summit, which is an important annual event for businesses and individuals involved in the mortgage industry. Ratehub.ca founder Alyssa Richard was asked to speak on a panel alongside Dan Eisner of True North Mortgage and Peter Majthenyi of the Mortgage Architects. The session was led by Canadian Mortgage Trends’ Rob McLister. The panel covered many important questions regarding how today’s mortgage consumer uses the internet to source mortgage rates, mortgage calculators and other mortgage-related information.

Here is a snippet of the summit:

Some interesting facts from the discussion:

  • 86% of people research mortgage rates
  • Websites such as Ratehub.ca add transparency to the mortgage industry
  • Rate comparison sites help mortgage brokers compete with the major banks
  • 71% of consumers who went online used a mortgage calculator
