James Laird is the co-founder of Ratehub.ca and President of CanWise Financial. James has grown CanWise into Canada’s largest independent brokerage; winning Brokerage of the Year in both 2018 and 2019. James continues to lead the CanWise Financial team in their goal of leveraging technology to deliver Canada’s best mortgage experience to consumers – efficiently and transparently. James loves helping clients make sound financial choices based on hard numbers. He is a go-to source for insights on real estate industry trends, and has contributed expert commentary to BNN Bloomberg, The Globe and Mail, CBC and Huffington Post Canada.
Jamie David is the Business Director of Mortgages at Ratehub.ca. A graduate of the Systems Design Engineering program at the University of Waterloo, she has over 15 years of business, marketing, and engineering experience in the financial technology, banking, education, energy and retail industries. She has worked in top organizations like TD Bank, Trading Pursuits, Petro-Canada, and the TTC. Her passion for personal finance, investing, education, and business strategy brought her to Ratehub.ca where she heads a very talented, cross-functional team that is dedicated to providing Canadians with the best mortgage experience all the way through from online search to (keys-in-your-hand) funded mortgage.
Matt started his professional career at CARPROOF (now known as CARFAX Canada) in London, Ontario, where he honed his marketing and analytical skills. Seeking new challenges, Matt took his wealth of experience to Ratehub.ca’s Toronto offices. In just over a year, Matt grew Ratehub.ca's Banking and Investments Unit by +142% through new partnerships and digital marketing strategies, including SEO, PPC campaigns, and social media. Recognizing his background and recent success, he was tasked with building from scratch, Ratehub.ca’s newest Business Unit: Insurance. With his team in place, Matt is diligently working with insurance providers, agents, and brokers to grow and expand the Insurance Business Unit, which includes auto, home, life and travel. He is a thought leader in the community acting as an insightful resource to respected publications like the Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, Huffington Post, Yahoo News, and 680 news radio in Toronto.
Mikael is a Senior Business Manager at Ratehub.ca and the driving force behind our Everyday Banking Team. He knows everything there is to know about the best credit cards and bank accounts, and works closely with Canada’s top financial institutions - from banks to credit unions - to help ensure our over 1,200,000 monthly users get matched with the right plastic. A numbers guy at heart, having worked as a strategy consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, he’s found himself right at home as a personal finance expert at Ratehub.ca.
Sandra Martin is the Editor-in-Chief at MoneySense - one of Canada’s most trusted and authoritative personal finance publications. With a journalism degree from Ryerson University, Sandra has over 20 years of experience as a writer, editor and content strategist, contributing to a wide variety of Canadian media publications. Her work as one of the original editorial staff members of MoneySense, and currently as the Editor-in-Chief, has helped to build MoneySense’s reputation as a trusted source of money-management and investing information for Canadians at every life stage and every step in their personal finance journey. Under her leadership, MoneySense earned the Silver Canadian Online Publishing Award in the Best Service Article or Series–Consumer category in January of 2020.
