We really regret not going with a local broker. At Ratehub, we were just a number and there wasn’t much care or attention put into getting our mortgage finalized until it was almost too late. They’d say paperwork was submitted, but it often wasn’t until the very last minute, if at all. It was hard to get a hold of anyone, and our broker suddenly went on vacation the week before closing without letting us know. The person who took over didn’t have all the info, so after weeks of correspondence, it felt like we were starting from scratch just days before closing. We got wrong numbers, empty promises, and a lot of “don’t worry” when we definitely should have been worried. There was no planning ahead, just urgent, last-minute requests for documents that an experienced broker should have seen coming. We only closed on time because we agreed to a smaller loan and a higher interest rate than what we were originally told. The stress wasn’t worth it.
