Travel Accident Insurance If you suffer a loss as a result of an accidental bodily injury while occupying a common carrier, then you are eligible for this coverage. Car Rental Insurance If your rental vehicle is damaged or stolen while rented out in your name, you are covered up to the vehicle’s actual cash value plus valid loss of use charges. Purchase Security Automatically protects new purchases by insuring them for 90 days from the date of purchase in the event of loss, theft or damage. Extended Warranty Either doubles the length of the item’s manufacturer’s warranty coverage or extends it by 1 year—whichever is lesser. Trip Cancellation If you have to cancel your trip before it has even started, your prepaid travel costs will be covered up to a maximum amount if the cause of cancellation is eligible for the insurance. Price Protection If, within a certain amount of time of purchasing an item, its price drops or you find an identical item offered for a lower retail price than what you paid, you will be reimbursed for the difference.

Trip Interruption & Delay If your trip has to be cut short or is delayed after the scheduled departure date, you will be covered up to a maximum amount if the cause of interruption or delay is eligible for the insurance. Flight Delay If your departing flight is delayed by a certain number of hours, you will be reimbursed up to a certain amount for necessary and reasonable expenses incurred during the delay. Travel Medical Emergency In the event that you require urgent medical care while on a trip outside of your home province, you will be covered for any eligible medical expenses incurred. Lost Baggage In the event that your checked baggage cannot be located by a common carrier, you will be reimbursed for a portion of the replacement cost of lost personal property. Delayed Baggage If your checked baggage is not delivered within a specified time frame from the time of your arrival at your destination, you will be reimbursed for the cost to replace essential items. Hotel/Motel Burglary If, while you are checked in, your personal property is stolen from your hotel/motel room and there is evidence of forceful entry, you will be reimbursed for the stolen property up to a certain amount.

Travel Accident Insurance

If you, your spouse, or your dependent child sustains an accidental bodily injury while occupying a common carrier—or while at the airport, terminal, or station at the beginning/end of your trip—and as a result suffers any of the losses below within one yearof the accident, then you are eligible for the corresponding benefit amount.

Note: At least 75% of the common carrier ticket must be charged to your card and/or using your Aventura Points in order to be eligible for the benefits.

Note: The maximum benefit payable to an insured person resulting from one accident, regardless of the number of losses, is limited to $500,000.


Limitations & Exclusions

There is no coverage for losses caused by or resulting from any of the following:

  • Intentional self-inflicted injuries
  • Suicide or attempted suicide while sane or insane
  • Sickness, disease, medical conditions and bacterial infection of any kind
  • Any act of declared or undeclared war
  • Commission or attempted commission of a criminal offence by the insured person
  • Riding onboard a common carrier with a status other than passenger
  • Use of drug and/or alcohol if such use caused or contributed to the accident


How to Make a Claim

  • Call the CIBC Credit Card Insurance Line at 1-866-363-3338 as soon as reasonably possible to obtain the forms for filing proof of loss
  • Where possible, written notice should be given within 90 days after the occurrence of any loss
  • Notice given by or on behalf of the insured person must provide information sufficient to identify the Cardholder
  • Benefits payable for any loss will be paid upon receipt of due proof of loss

Car Rental Insurance

If your rental vehicle is damaged or stolen while rented out in your name, you are covered up to the vehicle’s actual cash value plus valid loss of use charges (charges paid to the rental agency to compensate for the rental vehicle being made unavailable for rental while undergoing repairs) resulting from the damage or theft.

Coverage applies when the following conditions are met:

  • The full cost, including taxes, of the rental is charged to your card and/or using your Aventura Points
  • You decline the rental agency’s Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or an equivalent coverage offering
  • The length of the rental period doesn’t exceed 48 consecutive days


What Types of Rental Vehicles Are Covered?

You are covered under for any vehicle, in its model year, with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) under $65,000 (excluding all taxes), at the place the rental agreement is signed or where the rental vehicle is picked up.

  • Trucks, pick-up trucks or any vehicle that can be spontaneously reconfigured into a pick-up truck
  • Limousines
  • Off-road vehicles (any vehicle used on roads that aren’t publicly maintained)
  • Motorcycles, mopeds or motor bikes
  • Trailers, campers, recreational vehicles or vehicles not licensed for road use
  • Vehicles towing or propelling trailers or any other object
  • Mini-buses or buses
  • Exotic vehicles (such as but not limited to, Aston Martin, Bentley, Excalibur, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Hummer, Lincoln Navigator, Ford SportTrac)
  • Any vehicle which is either wholly or in part hand made, hand finished or has a limited production of under 2,500 vehicles per year
  • Antique vehicles (any vehicle over 20 years old or which hasn't been manufactured for 10 years or more)
  • Tax-free cars


Limitations & Exclusions

This coverage does not include theft, loss and damage arising directly or indirectly from:

  • Third party liability
  • Personal injury or damage to property, except the rental vehicle itself or its equipment
  • Replacement vehicle for which an automobile insurance is covering all or part of the cost of the rental
  • The operation of the rental vehicle at any time during the rental period where an insured person is driving while intoxicated or under the influence of any illegal or prescribed narcotic
  • Any dishonest, fraudulent or criminal act committed by any insured person or at their direction
  • Normal wear and tear, gradual deterioration, or mechanical or electrical breakdown or failure, inherent vice or damage, insects or vermin
  • The operation of the rental vehicle in violation of the terms of the rental agreement
  • Seizure or destruction under a quarantine or customs regulations or confiscation by order of any government or public authority
  • The transportation of contraband or illegal trade
  • War, hostile or warlike action, insurrection, rebellion, revolution, civil war, usurped power, or action taken by government or public authority in hindering, combating or defending against such action
  • The transportation of property or passengers for hire
  • Nuclear reaction, nuclear radiation, or radioactive contamination
  • Intentional damage to the rental vehicle by an insured person or at their direction
  • The loss, damage or misplacement of vehicle entry devices including keys and remote control devices or any related consequential loss, damage or expense


Helpful Hints

  • Check the rental vehicle carefully for scratches or dents before and after you rent the vehicle. Be sure to point out where the scratches or dents are located to a rental agency representative and have him or her note these on the appropriate form and retain a copy for your records.
  • The rental agency may not classify vehicles, especially mini-vans, in the same way as this policy. Be sure to confirm with the company that your rental vehicle has coverage under this policy.
  • If there's no space on the rental contract for you to indicate that you have declined the coverage, then indicate in writing on the contract “I decline the CDW provided by the rental agency”


How to Make a Claim

Call the CIBC Credit Card Insurance Line at 1-866-363-3338 immediately to report the theft, loss or damage, and have a claim file opened.

Your claim must be submitted with as much documentation as possible within 45 days of discovering the theft, loss or damage.

The following documentation should be submitted within 90 days of the date of the theft, loss or damage to the claims administrator:

  • Your CIBC statement(s) if requested
  • Your CIBC sales draft showing that the rental was paid in full with your card, or showing the balance of charges for the rental if you used your Aventura Points to pay for part of the rental
  • A copy of both sides of the vehicle rental agreement
  • The accident or damage report, if available
  • The itemized repair bill
  • The receipt for paid repairs
  • The police report, when available
  • A copy of Your billing or pre-billing statement if any repair charges were billed to your account

Purchase Security

This feature automatically, without registration, protects most new items purchased anywhere in the world against loss, theft or damage, for 90 days. If the item is lost, stolen or damaged, it will be replaced, repaired, or you will be reimbursed. Items are protected under this feature only when the full purchase price is charged to your card, and if they aren’t covered by other insurance.

Note: There is a maximum aggregate lifetime benefit per Cardholder of $60,000 for claims under Purchase Security & Extended Warranty Protection Insurance for all of his or her CIBC Credit Cards.


Limitations & Exclusions

Purchase Security does not provide coverage for the following items:

  • Travellers’ cheques, cash, tickets, and any other negotiable instruments
  • Bullion, rare or precious coins, art objects
  • Animals or living plants
  • Services
  • Any item purchased by and/or used for a business or commercial purpose
  • Used and pre-owned items including antiques and demos
  • Perishables such as food and liquor
  • Ancillary costs incurred in respect of an insured item and not forming part of the purchase price
  • Automobiles, motorboats, airplanes, and any other motorized vehicles, parts, accessories and labour thereof
  • Jewellery in baggage (only if hand carried by the Cardholder or by a person travelling with the Cardholder)
    Note: Jewellery stolen from baggage not hand carried is not covered unless the Cardholder’s baggage is stolen in its entirety; in which case, the loss is subject to a limitation of $2,500 per incident.

Losses resulting from any of the following are not covered under Purchase Security:

  • Fraud or abuse
  • Hostilities of any kind (including war, invasion, rebellion, or insurrection)
  • Confiscation by authorities, contraband or illegal activities
  • Willful acts or omissions
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Normal course of play
  • Flood or earthquake
  • Radioactive contamination
  • Inherent product defect
  • Items consumed in use
  • Mysterious disappearance (disappearance in an unexplained manner marked by an absence of evidence of the wrongful act of another)
  • Incidental and indirect damages including bodily injury, punitive or exemplary damages and legal expenses


How to Make a Claim

Call 1-866-363-3338 within 45 days from the date of the loss, theft or damage. You will be required to complete, sign and return a loss report within 90 days from the date of the loss, theft or damage.

Note: You must obtain approval before proceeding with any repair services.

The loss report should provide details to substantiate the loss, theft or damage, and must include:

  • an original copy of the store receipt
  • an original copy of your credit card statement reflecting the item purchased
  • the Manufacturer’s Warranty where applicable
  • the police report, if obtainable
  • any other information reasonably necessary to determine the your eligibility for benefits

Extended Warranty

This feature automatically, without registration, provides you with double the term of the manufacturer’s warranty up to a maximum of one year on most items purchased anywhere in the world when the full purchase price of the item is charged to your card.

Items with warranties over five years can be covered if they're registered within the first year after they're purchased.

Note: There is a maximum aggregate lifetime benefit per Cardholder of $60,000 for claims under Purchase Security & Extended Warranty Protection Insurance for all of his or her CIBC Credit Cards.


Limitations & Exclusions

Extended Protection Insurance does not cover the following items and services:

  • Automobiles, motorboats, airplanes and other motorized vehicles, and parts and accessories thereof
  • Services
  • Dealer and assembler warranties
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Used and pre-owned items, including demos
  • Normal course of play
  • Negligence, misuse and abuse
  • Inherent product defects
  • Willful acts or omission and improper installation or alteration
  • Ancillary costs
  • Any product purchased by and/or used for a business or commercial purpose
  • Any repair or replacement that would not have been covered under the Manufacturer’s Warranty

Losses resulting from any of the following are not covered under Extended Protection:

  • Fraud or abuse
  • Hostilities of any kind (including war, invasion, rebellion, or insurrection)
  • Confiscation by authorities, contraband or illegal activities
  • Willful acts or omissions
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Normal course of play
  • Flood or earthquake
  • Radioactive contamination
  • Inherent product defect
  • Items consumed in use

Trip Cancellation

If you have to cancel your trip before leaving your departure point because of an insured risk, then you'll be reimbursed up to $1,000 per person and up to $5,000 per trip for the non-refundable portion of your prepaid travel arrengements.

The cardholder, his or her spouse and dependent children, as well as up to 2 travelling companions are all eligible to receive benefits under this insurance.

The coverage period starts on the date that your trip is booked with a travel agent/supplier (and before any cancellation penalties have been incurred), and runs until your scheduled departure date.

Note: At least 75% of the common carrier ticket must be charged to your card and/or using your Aventura Points in order to be eligible for the benefits.


Covered Causes for Cancellation

  • Your emergency medical condition or admission to a hospital following an emergency
  • The emergency medical condition or admission to a hospital of following an emergency of a your family member (who is not at your destination), your business partner, key employee or caregiver
  • The admission to a hospital of your host at the destination, following an emergency medical condition
  • The emergency medical condition of your travelling companion or their admission to a hospital following an emergency
  • The emergency medical condition of your family member who is at your destination or their admission to a hospital following an emergency
  • The emergency medical condition of your travelling companion's family member or their admission to a hospital following an emergency
  • Your death
  • The death of your family member or friend (who is not at your destination), your business partner, key employee or caregiver
  • The death of your travelling companion
  • The death of your travelling companion’s family member, business partner, key employee or caregiver
  • The death of your host at the destination, following an emergency medical condition
  • The death of your immediate family member or friend, who is at your destination
  • A formal travel warning issued by Canada's Dept. of Foreign Affairs and International Trade after the purchase of your trip, advising Canadians not to travel to a region that is part of your trip
  • A transfer by the employer with whom you or your travelling companion is employed during the period of insurance, which requires the relocation of your principal residence
  • The involuntary loss of your or your travelling companion's permanent employment (not contract employment) due to lay-off or dismissal without just cause
  • Cancellation of your or your travelling companion's business meeting beyond your or your employer’s control
  • Your or your travelling companion's being summoned to service in the case of reservists, active military, police, essential medical personnel and fire personnel
  • An event completely independent of any intentional or negligent act that renders your or your travelling companion's principal residence uninhabitable or place of business inoperative
  • The quarantine or hijacking of an insured person or their travelling companion
  • You or your travelling companion being:
    • Called for jury duty
    • Subpoenaed as a witness
    • Required to appear as a party in a judicial proceeding


Limitations & Exclusions

This insurance does not cover any loss, claim or expense of any kind caused directly or indirectly from:

  • Your lung, heart, or other medical condition, if at any time in the 90 days before coverage is in effect, your condition has not been stable
  • Cancellation when you are aware, on the effective date, of any reason that might reasonably prevent you from travelling as booked
  • A trip undertaken to visit or attend an ailing person, when the medical condition or death of that person is the cause of the claim
  • The schedule change of a medical test or surgery that was originally scheduled before your period of insurance
  • Routine pre-natal care, a child born during your trip, pregnancy, childbirth or complications of either, occurring in the 9 weeks before or after the expected delivery date
  • Your participation as a professional in sports, participation as a professional in underwater activities, scuba diving as an amateur, participation in a motorized race or motorized speed contest, bungee jumping, parachuting, rock climbing, mountain climbing, hang-gliding or skydiving
  • Your commission of a criminal act or your direct or indirect attempt to commit a criminal act
  • Your intentional self-inflicted injury, your suicide or your attempt to commit suicide (whether sane or insane)
  • Any medical condition arising from, or in any way related to, your chronic use of alcohol or drugs whether prior to or during your trip
  • Medication, drugs or toxic substance abuse or overdose (whether or not you are sane); alcohol abuse, alcoholism or an accident while being impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • Hospitalization or services rendered in connection with general health examinations for “check-up” purposes, treatment of an ongoing condition, regular care of a chronic condition, home health care, investigative testing, rehabilitation or ongoing care or treatment in connection with drugs, alcohol or any other substance abuse
  • Non-compliance with any prescribed medical therapy or medical treatment or failure to carry out a doctor's instructions
  • Your mental or emotional disorders
  • Any injury, sickness or medical condition which, prior to the effective date of coverage was such as to render expected medical consultation or hospitalization, which has been shown, by prior medical history, as probably or certain to occur
  • War (declared or not), act of foreign enemies or rebellion, where a formal travel warning issued by Canada's Dept. of Foreign Affairs and International Trade
  • Ionising radiation or radioactive contamination from any nuclear fuel or waste which results from the burning of nuclear fuels; or, the radioactive, toxic, explosive or other dangerous properties of nuclear machinery or any part of it


How to Make a Claim

Cancel your trip and call the CIBC Credit Card Insurance Line at 1-866-363-3338 as soon as reasonably possible. You will be given all the information required to file a claim.

In addition to a fully completed Claim & Authorization form, you must provide the following documentation:

  • A medical document, fully completed by the legally qualified doctor in personal attendance stating the reason why travel was impossible, the diagnosis and all dates of treatment
  • Written evidence of the risk insured which was the cause of cancellation
  • Tour operator terms and conditions
  • Copy of your CIBC Card statement or invoice showing payment of your trip
  • Complete original unused transportation tickets and vouchers
  • All receipts for the prepaid land arrangements and/or subsistence allowance expenses
  • Original passenger receipts for new tickets
  • Detailed invoices and/or receipts from the service provider(s)

Note: In the event of a medical cause for cancellation, you must give the insurer your consent to verify your health card number and other information required to process your claim. You must also give your authorization to doctors, hospitals and other medical providers to provide the insurer with any and all information they have regarding you, while under observation or treatment, including your medical history, diagnoses and test results.

Trip Interruption & Delay

If, after you’ve already departed, your trip is unexpectedly cut short or delayed because of an insured risk, you’ll be reimbursed up to $2,000 per insured person for the non-refundable unused portion of your prepaid travel arrangements, transportation, and out-of-pocket expenses.

Note: At least 75% of the common carrier ticket must be charged to your card and/or using your Aventura Points in order to be eligible for the benefits.

When you or your travelling companion are hospitalized on your scheduled return date, your coverage will remain in force during the period of hospitalization and up to 5 days following discharge from the Hospital. Similarly, coverage is automatically extended for up to 5 days when you must delay your scheduled return date due to your or your travelling companion’s medical emergency. Coverage is also automatically extended for up to 72 hours when the delay of a common carrier in which you are a passenger causes your trip to extend beyond your scheduled return date.

This coverage provides benefits for:

  • Transportation to your next destination,
  • An early return to your departure point, or
  • The delay of your trip beyond the scheduled return date

  • Eligible Expenses

    You will be reimbursed for the extra cost of:

    • Your economy class transportation via the most cost-effective route to rejoin a tour or group on your trip; or
    • Your economy class transportation via the most cost-effective route to your departure point; or
    • Your economy class one-way air fare via the most cost-effective route to your next destination (inbound and outbound) on your trip.

    You will also be reimbursed up to $100 per day per person (up to a maximum of $1,000 for all insured persons combined) for commercial accommodation, meals, telephone and taxi expenses if your trip is interrupted or, if return home is delayed beyond the scheduled return date.

    Note: Any transportation and out-of-pocket expenses benefits must be undertaken within 10 days following your originally scheduled return date if your delay is not the result of hospitalization, or within 30 days if it is.


    Covered Causes for Interruption

    • Your emergency medical condition or admission to a hospital following an emergency
    • The emergency medical condition or admission to a hospital of following an emergency of a your family member (who is not at your destination), your business partner, key employee or caregiver

    • The death of your host at the destination, following an emergency medical condition
    • The death of your immediate family member or friend, who is at your destination
    • A formal travel warning issued by Canada's Dept. of Foreign Affairs and International Trade after the purchase of your trip, advising Canadians not to travel to a region that is part of your trip
    • A transfer by the employer with whom you or your travelling companion is employed during the period of insurance, which requires the relocation of your principal residence

    • An event completely independent of any intentional or negligent act that renders your or your travelling companion's principal residence uninhabitable or place of business inoperative
    • The quarantine or hijacking of an insured person or their travelling companion
    • During your trip, you or your travelling companion being:
      • Called for jury duty
      • Subpoenaed as a witness
      • Required to appear as a party in a judicial proceeding

    How to Make a Claim

    Call the CIBC Credit Card Insurance Line at 1-866-363-3338 as soon as reasonably possible to advise them of the interruption or delay. You will be given all the information required to file a claim.

    In addition to a fully completed Claim & Authorization form, you must provide the following documentation:

    • A medical document, fully completed by the legally qualified doctor in personal attendance stating the reason why travel was impossible, the diagnosis and all dates of treatment
    • Written evidence of the risk insured which was the cause of interruption or delay
    • Tour operator terms and conditions
    • Copy of your CIBC Card statement or invoice showing payment of your trip
    • Complete original unused transportation tickets and vouchers
    • All receipts for the prepaid land arrangements and/or subsistence allowance expenses
    • Original passenger receipts for new tickets
    • Reports from the police or local authorities documenting the cause of the missed connection
    • Detailed invoices and/or receipts from the service provider(s)

    Note: In the event of a medical cause for interruption or delay, you must give the insurer your consent to verify your health card number and other information required to process your claim. You must also give your authorization to doctors, hospitals and other medical providers to provide the insurer with any and all information they have regarding you, while under observation or treatment, including your medical history, diagnoses and test results.

    Flight Delay

    In the event that your scheduled departure is delayed by more than 4 hours, causing you to miss a connecting flight or delay your travel arrangements, you will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $500 for reasonable living expenses (meals and accommodation) incurred while delayed.

    Additionally, if as a result of the delay, you either return directly to your principal residence, or you travel to a place of overnight accommodation, then you will be reimbursed up to $100 for ground transportation expenses. You will also be reimbursed up to $100 for entertainment expenses incurred if, as the result of the flight delay, you attend a ticketed event such as, but not limited to, a movie theatre, theatre, concert hall, opera or sports event.


    Eligibility

    Benefits are payable subject to the following:

    • At least 75% of the ticket price was charged to your card and/or was obtained using your Aventura Points
    • The delayed flight was a scheduled service by an airline
    • The delay of the flight was the result of strike by airline personnel, quarantine, civil commotion, hijack, natural disaster, inclement weather, mechanical breakdown or air traffic delays caused by congestion in the skies
    • You provide receipts for reasonable living expenses


    Limitations & Exclusions

    This coverage does not include any loss caused by or resulting from:

    • Any act of declared or undeclared war
    • Any accident occurring while the insured person is operating or learning to operate or serving as a member of the crew of any aircraft
    • Any criminal act by the insured person
    • Failure of any device to correctly read or interpret date/time data


    How to Make a Claim

    Call 1-866-363-3338. If possible, written notice of claim should be given within 90 days after the occurrence of any loss, and written proof of loss as soon as reasonably possible.

    To claim for benefits, the following must be submitted:

    • Verification by the airline of the delay, including the reason for and duration of the delay; and any compensation issued
    • Original itemized expense receipts
    • A copy of the travel agent’s invoice/itinerary, or a copy of your account statement showing your card as the method of payment or showing it as a free ticket obtained through the redemption of your Aventura Points
    • A copy of the airline ticket

    Travel Medical Emergency

    In the event of a medical emergency taking place during a trip outside of your home province, you will be covered for any eligible emergency travel medical expenses incurred and will also have access to emergency medical and travel services.

    You, your spouse, and your dependent children are automatically covered up to $5,000,000 per person, per trip:

    • If you are under 65, you're covered for 15 days
    • If you are 65 or older, you're covered for 3 days


    Automatic Extension of Benefits

    Benefits will be extended to you and those you're travelling with while you are hospitalized for a covered medical emergency. Benefits will also be extended to you and to those travelling with you for up to 72 hours following:

    • Your discharge from a hospital,
    • Expiry of coverage (if you're not hospitalized) when return has been delayed by order of the doctor due to an emergency, or
    • Expiry of coverage if your return home has been delayed because your common carrier has been delayed or if a private vehicle becomes inoperable on the way to your departure point


    Coverage Benefits

    You will be covered for reasonable and customary charges for each benefit listed below in the event of an emergency:

    • Accommodation in a hospital or medical facility (in excess of what is covered by your GHIP)
    • Doctor's bills (in excess of what is covered by your GHIP)
    • Private registered nurse (if considered to be necessary)
    • Ground and air ambulance services to the nearest medical facility
    • Paramedical services (up to $300 per profession) (includes x-rays)
    • Diagnostic services
    • Prescriptions (charges for up to a 30-day supply of drugs and medicines)
    • Medical appliances (must be ordered by the attending doctor)
    • Dental treatment (up to $2,000 for emergency dental treatment and up to $200 for emergency relief of dental pain) (excludes crowns and root canals)
    • Coming home (return airfare)
    • Care and return of dependent children (charges up to $250 for incidental expenses will also be covered)
    • Transportation to bedside (for a family member or friend to visit you if you are travelling alone and are confined for at least 7 days in a hospital, or to identify your remains in the case of your death)
    • Return of deceased (charges up to $3,500 if you are buried or cremated in the place of death)
    • Meals and accommodation (up to $250 a day, to a maximum of $1,750)
    • Vehicle services (up to $1,000)
    • Incidental expenses (up to $300)


    Limitations & Exclusions

    You will not be reimbursed for expenses resulting from or related to:

    • Your lung, heart, or other medical condition, if before coverage is in effect, your condition has not been stable (90 days if you're under 65, 180 days if you're 65 or over)
    • The continued treatment, investigations, recurrence or complication of any lung, heart, or other medical condition, following emergency treatment, if a medical advisor determines you’re able to return to Canada and you choose not to
    • Expenses incurred where you have chosen not to follow the insurer's instructions
    • Elective treatment (treatment that is not required due to an emergency, even if it's recommended by a doctor)
    • Expenses incurred if you travel against medical advice, or if future treatment or investigation for a previously diagnosed condition has been recommended or scheduled (except routine monitoring for the condition)
    • Any treatment, investigation or surgery that is not due to an emergency
    • Any surgery, invasive investigations, including cardiac catheterization unless preapproved by the insurer except in extreme circumstances, on an emergency basis, immediately following admission to a hospital
    • Treatment which is experimental
    • You having left your province for the purposes of receiving medical care or hospital services
    • Any expenses related to childbirth and delivery, or any complications of pregnancy, if You travel during the 9 weeks before or after your expected delivery date as determined by your doctor at home
    • Expenses which arise, directly or indirectly, from you committing or attempting to commit a criminal act as defined by local laws
    • You participating in professional sports or any motorized speed contest
    • Act of civil disorder or war, whether it is declared or not
    • Medication, drugs or toxic substance abuse or overdose (whether or not you are sane); alcohol abuse, alcoholism or an accident while being impaired by drugs or alcohol or having an alcohol concentration that exceeds the legal limit in the jurisdiction where the accident occurred
    • Intentional self-inflicted injuries, suicide or attempted suicide, whether you are sane or insane
    • A disorder, disease, condition or symptom that is emotional, psychological or mental in nature unless you are hospitalized
    • MRIs, CAT scans, sonograms or ultrasounds and biopsies unless such services are authorized in advance by Global Excel


    How to Make a Claim

    Call Global Excel at 1-877-350-6970 at the first available opportunity when you need emergency medical assistance. You must call Global Excel before obtaining any medical services or advice. The operator can direct you to a medical facility or doctor in your area of travel.

    Some treatments require pre-approval in order to be covered. If you contact Global Excel at the time of your emergency, it will ensure that your covered expenses are paid directly to the hospital or medical facility, where possible.

    You must submit your claim within 90 days of the date the service was provided.

    Lost Baggage Insurance

    In the event that your checked baggage, or that of your spouse or dependent child, is permanently lost or damaged while in the custody of the common carrier, you will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $1,000 ($500 per person) for the replacement cost of any lost or stolen personal property that is not covered by other insurance.

    Note: You will only be reimbursed if at least 75% of the ticket price was charged to your card and/or was obtained using your Aventura Points.


    Limitations & Exclusions

    This coverage does not include any loss caused by or resulting from:

    • Any act of declared or undeclared war
    • Any accident occurring while the insured person is operating or learning to operate or serving as a member of the crew of any aircraft
    • Any criminal act by the insured person
    • Failure of any device to correctly read or interpret date/time data

    No benefits will be paid for any expenses incurred directly or indirectly relating to:

    • Animals, sporting equipment (except golf clubs and golf bags; skis, ski poles and ski boots; and racquets), cameras and accessory equipment, eye glasses, sunglasses, contact lenses, prosthetic devices including dentures, furs, tickets, valuable papers and documents, securities and money
    • Confiscation, expropriation or detention by any government, public authority, customs or other officials
    • Nuclear fuel or waste, or the combustion of nuclear fuels
    • Baggage or personal property lost, stolen or damaged during commuting

    To claim for benefits, the following must be submitted:

    • A copy of the travel agent’s invoice/itinerary, or a copy of your account statement showing your card as the method of payment or showing it as a free ticket obtained through the redemption of your Aventura Points
    • A copy of the airline ticket
    • A copy of the initial claim report submitted to the common carrier
    • Proof of submission of the loss to and the results of any settlement by the common carrier
    • Original receipt confirming that the property has actually been replaced or the original receipt for the lost or stolen item

    Delayed Baggage Insurance

    If your checked baggage, or that of your spouse or dependent child, is unavoidably delayed for more than 6 hours while in the custody of an airline , you will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $1,000 ($500 per person) for the purchase of necessary clothing and personal hygiene articles during the delay period.

    Note: You will only be reimbursed if at least 75% of the ticket price was charged to your card and/or was obtained using your Aventura Points.


    Limitations & Exclusions

    This coverage does not include any loss caused by or resulting from:

    • Any act of declared or undeclared war
    • Any accident occurring while the insured person is operating or learning to operate or serving as a member of the crew of any aircraft
    • Any criminal act by the insured person
    • Failure of any device to correctly read or interpret date/time data
    • Purchases (related to the delayed baggage) made more than 4 days after the date your baggage was scheduled to arrive by the common carrier or made after the baggage is returned by the common carrier
