Alberta Mortgage Brokers
Mortgage brokers in Alberta provide an origination service for acquiring mortgage loans. They act as an intermediary between the borrower and the lender. The broker will gather the borrower’s financial information and process the paperwork to be passed off later to the lender.
Why use a mortgage broker in Alberta?
- A mortgage broker’s services are completely free
- Alberta mortgage brokers have extended business hours because they operate independently
- Through access to numerous lending institutions, mortgage agents are able to provide the most competitive mortgage rates
- Mortgage professionals in Alberta represent valuable industry knowledge because they are not tied to any one lender, but rather see the entire mortgage backdrop
Alberta Mortgage Broker Associations and Licensing
The Real Estate Act of Alberta requires any individual who deals in mortgages to hold an authorization with the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA). To become licensed, a person must meet the requirements set out by the RECA and complete two mortgage education courses. The first course may be obtained through the RECA online. The second course is available through the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association (AMBA).
Completing these courses will qualify as the Proficiency Course requirement for the AMP Program. The Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) designation is assigned by the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals, otherwise known as CAAMP. The AMP designation is not a national requirement, but does lend credibility.
