About Hudson’s Bay Company

Hudson’s Bay Company was founded in 1670, nearly 200 years before Confederation. It’s the parent of a number of retail brands, including Hudson’s Bay, Home Outfitters, Saks Fifth Avenue, Gilt, and Lord & Taylor. The company also owns retailers in Germany and Belgium.

How to earn Hudson’s Bay Rewards points

You can earn points at any Hudson’s Bay and Home Outfitters stores or on thebay.com. The rewards program has three tiers:

Hudson’s Bay Rewards—When you use your rewards card, you’ll earn one point for almost every $1 spent when you spend between $1 and $399.99 before tax in a calendar year. If you use a Hudson’s Bay MasterCard or Hudson’s Bay credit card, you’ll earn double the points (two points per $1 spent).

Hudson’s Bay Rewards Plus—When you present your rewards card, you’ll earn 1.5 points for almost every $1 spent when you spend between $400 and $1,199.99 before tax in a calendar year. If you use a Hudson’s Bay MasterCard or Hudson’s Bay credit card, you’ll earn double the points (three points per $1 spent). As a Rewards Plus member, you’ll receive exclusive savings offers and be notified of special events in advance.

Hudson’s Bay Rewards Plus—When you use your rewards card, you’ll earn two points for almost every $1 spent when you spend more than $1,200 before tax in a calendar year. If you use a Hudson’s Bay MasterCard or Hudson’s Bay credit card, you’ll earn double the points (four points per $1 spent). As a Rewards VIP member, you’ll receive exclusive VIP savings offers and invitations, and advance notice of special events.

To qualify for the Hudson’s Bay Rewards Plus and VIP tiers, you must make at least two separate purchases in two different locations or on two different dates. Once the minimum purchase level is reached, the accelerated points begin after your second visit. You must requalify for either tier every calendar year.

And you can earn two points for almost every $1 spent anywhere else when you use your Hudson’s Bay MasterCard anywhere else. You’ll also receive a 25% points bonus on those purchases twice a year in January and July.

If you’re a Petro-Points Rewards member, you can earn additional points. All you have to do is register your Hudson’s Bay card with Petro-Points. You’ll collect 20% more Hudson’s Bay Rewards points at Hudson’s Bay, Home Outfitters, and thebay.com as well as 20% more Petro-Points at Petro-Canada.

How to redeem Hudson’s Bay Rewards points

You can redeem your points at Hudson’s Bay or Home Outfitters stores for a gift card in $10 increments. Or you can redeem your points online in gift card denominations of $25, $50, or $100.

You can convert your points to Air Miles or donate your points to the following charities: HBC Foundation, Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Paralympic Committee, Beauty Gives Back, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Habitat for Humanity Canada, and Boys and Girls Club of Canada.

The value of Hudson’s Bay Rewards points

When you redeem your points for a gift card, the value of a Hudson’s Bay Rewards point remains constant. If you redeem 2,000 points for a $10 gift card, the value is $0.005 ($10/2,000 points = $0.005).

The bottom line

Being a member of the Hudson’s Bay Rewards program is good if you shop at the store frequently. You’ll also earn more points if you have a Hudson’s Bay MasterCard or Hudson’s Bay credit card. Having either card also gives you the ability to save money since there are some weekends where you can save 15% on most items when you use your card. However, make sure to pay off your balance in full because the interest rate on these cards is 29.9%. Unfortunately, you can’t currently earn points at Saks or other retailers owned by Hudson’s Bay except for Home Outfitters.
